About the Play:
“Lope de Vega’s cautionary tale of the dangerous strategies lovers use on each other.”
The Agony and the Style by Lope de Vega is a Spanish play written in 1634. It was discovered by David Johnston, who found it in the British Library after having seen it performed in Spain, subsequently commissioning its translation. The play was brought to RWCMD and directed by Joshua Roche, whose vision included live music that Naomi Lane and I wrote collaboratively. Before then, this play had never been seen in the U.K.
