Poem: Everyday, Every Night

Everyday, every night,
You will see him in your mind,
And you’ll look to see if he’s really standing there.
Take a look, and you’ll see,
Just a lamp post, or a tree.
’He’s not looking at me’,
He’s not there.

Everyday, every night,
In your heart you shall find,
Little pieces of him that he left behind.
There’s his hat, and his coat,
And a half drunk whiskey oat.
He was sitting there not long ago.

Everyday, every night,
As you while away the time
Thinking of everything that you’ve done wrong.
And your heart will be sore,
As you pluck out every thorn.
He’s not coming back, anymore.

He’s not coming back,
Anymore.
