Poem: A World Without Music

A world without music is nothing to me.
It’s no more than a black & white picture of the sea.
Drained of its colour, its soul, and delight…
There is little to look forward to and expect or excite.

A world without music maybe a world without sound.
For who can say birdsong’s not music all around.
The wind in the willows, or the buzz of the bees,
Can calm and collect us and put us at ease.

Some may prefer silence and sheer solitude,
But there is only so much we can think on and brood.
Music provides us an escape from our minds,
One can be alone but not lonely, with music, you’ll find.

In a world without music, when would we dance?
Be moved by emotions, to kiss and romance?
To let ourselves go and be free for a while,
And be led by each moment to enchant and beguile.

Formless, ethereal; music floats through the air,
Filling no space and all space, somewhere here or somewhere there.
It can travel through time and aims straight for our hearts,
Deep inside, its knowledge and wisdom, it imparts.

A world without music is no world of mine.
An old copper penny that has lost its shine.
For music enlivens, creates, and inspires,
Between every note, it has all we require.
